Something New
By: Dont'e Burrell
It is fun trying something new. Have you ever joined a football team, for the first time? When I joined my first football team, I was shy and scared at the same time. I caught butterflies in my stomach. It is also fun to get new ideas and do new things. Remember don’t be shy.
This is what I did when I went on the field, the offensive coach named Coach Duck made me a running back. I ran the ball down the field. It was fun running the ball, but you have to try new positions .The next thing Coach Duck made me was a wide receiver. I caught all the balls the quarterback threw to me. A wide receiver’s job is to catch the ball and run it into the inzone. The defensive coach named Coach Tim made me a defensive end. My job at defensive end was to get in the backfield and sack the quarterback.

The other players treated me equal. I wasn't any different than the other players. Our coaches treated everyone the same. The other players joked around with me. They had now became my friends. They were nice to me. It was time to put out positions. I played Tight End ,and sometimes running back. Our quarterback’s name was Tivis. Our running backs’ names were Kedranae and Donte. Our center’s name was Jordan. My number was 85.
Now it was time for our first game .We were playing against Kenedy Heights Park .We won the coin toss .First play of the game, the quarterback threw me the ball .I ran the ball ten yards ,then I got tackled .The quarterback did a quarterback sneak up the middle for a touchdown! Then it was time for the extra point. The quarterback threw me the ball, I caught it ! The extra point was good. The score was 7-0. It was time for defense. I played defencive end. I got in the backfield and got a sack. The other team did a pass play, I caught an interception, and ran it for a touchdown. The score was 13-0. We missed the extra point. It was the end of the game. Our team won! Our coaches were so proud of us. We won our record was 1-0. That meant 1 win 0 losses.
Trying new things is fun. Like me playing football. Try new things instead of the same old thing. Remember, when you try new things, don’t be shy.

My First Time at a New School
By: Sammy Carriere
Have you ever been new at something or new at a place or sport like baseball or school? Well I have, and let me tell you it’s was a rush .One time I moved to Lake Charles and I had to go to a new school and I was scared. I felt scared because I was new and didn’t know anybody. Then I cried for my mom. I was also excited to meet new people because, how many people do you know that don’t?
Other people treated me nice. I think they treated me nice because I was new and didn’t know anything. Some other people treated me mean because I was the shortest one, but because they treated me like that, they got in trouble. I treated every one nice so I got rewarded with candy. The last thing I did was talk to everyone. They
showed me around and taught me the way it worked around there. That was what I did at my new School. I hope if you‘re new at something you do the same as I.

Something New
By: Hailey Bauman

Have you ever been new at anything? School or new team? I have, when it was my first year at Live Oak .Doesn’t the first day of school make you have a strange feeling in your stomach ?All you need to do is be yourself .That always works.
On my first day at Live Oak I was very nervous. I was nervous because it was my first day at a new school that I never heard of before. I was also afraid if I would see any old friends or relatives. That was my biggest concern. I was also excited because I enjoy school and learning new things. I always had different feelings on the first day of school.
I bet you now want to know how others treated me. There were some friendly people, nice people, and very mean people. The friendly ones, I think they just want to be friendly. I was comfortable around them. But the nice ones were different. I think they just wanted to impress the teachers. They didn’t do very well. On the other hand, the mean ones were just ungraceful. They wanted to be the class clown. People treated me differently.
There were some people I knew there. My stepsister , Kara, was there. But she wasn’t new, so she helped me to the classes and introduced me to people there. She was a little help because she was in a different grade than me, but I was still appreciated her. My friend Anya helped me a lot. I never knew her before, but she was nice. She helped me the most because was in my grade and around my age group. My teacher Ms. Jenkins also helped. She was really nice and helped me through the year. I had some weight lifted of my back because I knew some people there.
I hope you enjoyed the experience of how I felt, my concerns, on my first day at Live Oak. I had a different experience than I thought I would have had.

Something New
By: Nicholas Bergeron

Have you ever been new at something? Well I have when I started playing basketball.
I felt like I was nothing when I started, but then I felt I had a gigantic love with basketball. Dribbling, shooting, and stealing it’s so fun.
What I did was practice and more practice because I couldn’t make a shot, but I never gave up.
I started to feel kind of nervous because my brother is too competitive, when I miss he mumbles, but I did have some excitement. I thought one day I would be a luminous star on the court.
Of course there are people who treated me a certain way. There was my brother’s friend Chase it was easy, because he knew I was new at it. Then there was my brother, I already explained he is competitive, and my friend Hunter who teaches me how to play and shoot.
That’s my life of me being new at basketball. I’m pretty good, but not a pro, that will change soon.

Being new at Cherbonnier Elementary

BY:BRIA MCCANN

I felt like I was in a long museum when I rode the bus to school. When I saw the school my mouth dropped to the ground. I was amazed and I also felt shy because I didn’t know anyone at Cherbonnier. I now know some of the teachers and almost all of the students. I also felt shaky because I had just moved to the fourth grade and she was moving a bit too fast for me, because she was doing 3 digit by 2 digit math problems. She taught us words we didn’t even know. But you know what? I felt good as the months moved forward.

One thing I did was every time she wrote something down on the board, I would pay attention and copy it down. The second thing I did was followed directions. When she would say get lined up, I would be the first in line. The third thing I did was I did all my classwork and homework. I was on the ball, but remember, that was just at the beginning of the year. The rest of the year I was okay, but sad to say, I wasn’t on the honor roll.

When I first got their kids were teasing me. But I found out that I was in the wrong class. Then I made friends and other people were nice to me. The others who picked on me stayed right back in the fourth grade except a few, the others went on to the fifth grade. Some teachers treated me mean because they thought I was disrespectful, but now they see that I passed to the fifth grade. Some students treated me mean because they thought that I wasn’t smart, and I showed them that I was smart and that I passed to the fifth grade.

I’m just happy that I passed. I was able to go home and show my mommy my grades on my leap and she was very happy to see me go pass the fourth grade. Every body in my family celebrated at the skating rink, but you guys have to pray for me to pass the fifth grade. I loved writing this story for you all, trying something new ended up fun!

Joining Something New
By: Mya Brown
Have you ever joined or did something new? When I first joined my track team, I was excited . I got to meet new people and make new friends. I had a coach that made me feel like I was already on the team. I’m going to start joining new things.
This is how my story began, when I first joined the track team. What did I do? First , they were not mean to me! Second , I tried to make friends, so they can be there for me when I needed help . Next, I will tried to blend in , so I would not be left behind! Those three things helped me become better at learning what to do.

These are the people that were there for me. Kaylien, was there; she taught me what to do. My cousin Eric was there, he was very supportive. My coach was there, he made sure I got all the help that I needed.

These are all the feelings I had. They had different feelings about me .I felt scared, awesome, and excited because it is fun to join something new in life .You may be scared on your first day because you may not know anyone . I know everyone gets scared when they join something new.

All of my three things made me feel happy about being on the team .Now I love being new, because I know what to do. I hope everyone knows what to do when they are new. I wish all of them the best !

What I was New At
By: Bailee Lewis

I was new at a lot of things, were you? This is what I was at, dance practice. Well, to began, I have been dancing since I was 2 years old. My first day there was fantastic! I was shy and didn’t know anything. So my friend helped me learn. Her name is Okmaitate, this is an African name.

My teachers taught us how to dance. Their names were Ms. Lynn and Ms. Brazion. They told me I had potential. So they put me on the front row in the recital. It was great! The name of the song was “Hot Chocolate,” It’s kind of a boggy song, kind of a slow too.

Our costumes were pink and had a big bow on the back. It was our tap dance. The front row was amazing, but for the rest of the dances I was on the second or third row. It was okay, but this is what I didn’t get at all. Why wasn’t I on the front row on all of them?

So this is what I was new at, dance. It was fun, but I was shy. I got to be on the front row which was amazing, oh guess what; I had the best year ever!

THE FIRST TIME I WAS ON THE MAJORETTE TEAM
BY: ANYA’ JACKSON
Today I am going to tell you a story about the first time I was on the majorette team. The name of the team was Cultural Elite Academy of Dance. It didn’t go well so I don’t like to talk about it. Now I’m on Jeanie Morris High Stepping Majorettes.

On Jeanie Morris High Stepping Majorettes we only twirl batons or what some people call girls spinning shiny metal sticks in the parade. Although it is very hard , I practiced. When we practice we get very tired Like Saturday October 10 , 2009 we had to march from Berhman Gym to the Levee, but we didn’t go all the way there because Ms.Jeanie felt that if we walked all the way it would rain on us so we marched back. Practices are at 10:00 and I wake up at 9:00 so I don’t eat any breakfast .When I’m practicing I get very hungry. Sometimes I bring an apple or an orange. That’s what I do at practice.

Most of the people I knew were there because they were on the other team, but it was only four people. There names were Ciara, Daishaan, Amanda ,and Rayuan. One of my friends, D’Janae Odoms is now on the team and I am hoping to get another one of my friends, Milnika Cline to get on the team .D’Janae has already been to her first practice .One day I hope D’Janae can come over to my house and practice.

When we practice, we twirl batons, march, and learn caters, but we also learn routines. Routines are when you make or do a dance that is at least 4 8-counts. So far we’ve learned 2 caters and 5 routines, but I really like to be there.

Every other girl treated me like I had been there before .Just because they treat me like that I have great times at practice, but most of the girls have hard times pronouncing my name. I feel great at practice because I can have a conversation without them messing with me.

Well, as I said at the beginning of my story I told you about the first time I was on the majorette team and the second time. I really had a blast writing! Please read my other stories coming out on December 11 , 2009.But I have a question for the ladies , one day will you be a majorette ?

Mystery Reader SGT Jeremy Harris!

Sergeant Jeremy Harris of the Marine Corps visited our class today! Since this month focuses on American Patriotism like Veterans Day and Election Day, SGT Harris read a poem by William Topez about the importance of Women Suffrage. This gave women the right to vote in the 1920s. We had a blast and were given prizes, book covers, and t-shirts. We want to thank SGT Harris for his patriotism and dedication to helping literacy in America and protecting our country!
